LED displays take over Times Square
Although New York's most iconic advertising hoardings are all erected along the skyline in bright LEDs at Times Square, a new flagship store from American Eagle Outfitters (AEO) has gone a significant step further than many of its rivals.
AEO has completely covered the multi-tiered exterior with several stories' worth of LED displays, all working in unison to produce one of the most impressive animated outdoor advertisements in the world.
The main aim of the impressive LED-laden structure is to captivate the millions of consumers who wander through Times Square every year and the extent of the display and its powerful visual impact is likely to achieve this objective.
The LED displays cover 12 different sides of the store. A total of over fifteen thousand square feet is covered by LED displays. The most stunning effect of all is the needle-like tower protruding from the top, which is 25 storeys high and coated from top to bottom in LEDs.
Nearly 1500 individual LED displays are linked up to make the high definition whole, giving the store's owners around 3.5 million LED pixels to play with.
Its manufacturers believe that the LED displays have a colour pallet containing hundreds of trillions of shades and hues and the weatherproof panels should stay active throughout the year.
The interior of the store also has its fair share of LED displays, with crystal clear image quality the driving ideal behind the whole installation. The screens will display a mixed selection of video, text, animation and images, resulting in a complex cumulative effect that is undeniable arresting.
From a technical point of view, the AEO store LED display project is impressive because it deals with a highly unusual building. The various angles and vertices that have been integrated into a seamless design required the innovative application and mounting of LED technology.
